India has risen to the top of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table, following Australia’s victory against New Zealand in the opening Test in Wellington on Sunday.
Dominant victory strengthens India’s position.
The Kiwis’ points percentage (PCT) dropped significantly as the Australian visitors cruised to a 172-run victory. Australia’s triumph was led by remarkable performances from Cameron Green, who scored a century in the first innings, and Nathan Lyon, who took 10 wickets. Following the match, New Zealand’s PCT dropped from 75 to 60. Meanwhile, Australia, the incumbent champions, increased their PCT from 55 to 59.09, securing their seventh win in 11 matches this cycle.

On the other side, Australia has two series remaining: the famous Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India in late 2024, followed by a two-Test visit of Sri Lanka in January 2025.
